LDS Missionary Christmas Care Package Ideas

Update: Another Christmas Care Package idea for my newest missionary can be found here.

Today I mailed a few Christmas care packages to my son serving an LDS mission in Bolivia. About a month ago I asked him to send me ideas of what he might want or need. This year I wrapped each gift and put a mailing label on it with a scripture for him to look up. I looked up the correlating scriptures in the Topical Guide and the Bible dictionary. It was enjoyable for me, and I hope he reads them instead of tearing open all of the little packages first.

Shipping Tips:

  • Keep package weight under 4 lbs. to prevent expensive customs fees at the other end.
  • Use a postal scale at home before you get to the post office so you don't have any surprises. When I arrived at the post office, both packages weighed 3 lbs. 14 oz. each! Pretty good.
  • Choose items that are lightweight.
  • Don't try to send everything you desire because if he gets transferred, he can't take it all with him.

  1. Great idea for missionaries. We did something similar in Relief Society. Note on the boxes....most Priority mail boxes now have printing on the insides too so you can't turn them inside out. The box says "this packaging...is provided solely for use in sending Priority Mail shipments." I've seen guys at the post office required to ship a package priority mail because they turned the box inside out. The only other option was to go home and find another box.

Another option is to save some Amazon.com boxes and reuse them.

  3. Just a heads up, the PO gets very upset when their boxes are turned inside out instead of being used for priority shipping.

    I'd be careful.

  7. For those with Missionaries serving overseas, find out if there are shippers that send to those areas, (like the Philippines Balikbayan shippers) often it is cheaper to send through them than the Post office.

  8. When people order missionary gifts from us we recommend ordering them first to your home address in the USA. The gifts can then be combined so that you're only sending a single package to your missionary.

If anyone's interested our missionary t-shirts are selling really well in the run up to Christmas.
